Job Description

SEN Teaching Assistant

A Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant is required to support a child in Reception on a one-to-one basis. The school is one form entry and located in Kennington, South London. The role will start immediately.

Smart Teachers is looking to appoint a highly capable and experienced SEN TA with solid SEN and MAKATON experience. We are looking for TAs with one-to-one experience working in a mainstream or Special Needs school.

Your genuine passion for supporting children with special needs and in particular, autism, will be apparent and you will confident in your ability to providing a high quality educational experience.

Preferred candidates will have gained additional training in working with special needs and will have a strong understanding of MAKATON and PECS in addition, working with children with autism.

To apply, you must meet the following criteria:

-          Eligible to work in the UK

-          6 months UK experience as a teaching assistant working with children with special needs

-          NVQ in childcare or qualified to Degree Level 

-          Proven track record and experience supporting SEN pupils

-          Exceptional communication skills

-          Good knowledge of the UK Curriculum

-          Recent references and a valid CRB/police checks

-          Above average organisational skills with the ability to work on your own and as part of team

-          The ability to quickly adapt to a new environment and fully understand the values and beliefs of the school
